Illegally avoiding tolls on a motorcycle

I went to a motorcycle meet-up and a few of the guys where bragging about how they avoid paying tolls on the highway by covering up their license plates (In Florida the entire system is automated with surveillance cameras and transponders).

One guy has a flip down arm like James Bond that flips the plate face down so that it cannot be read by the camera. A couple of the other guys just stick an old plate they found from 10 years ago on top of their real plate using powerful magnets or velcro. Those same guys say they use the phoney plate also to avoid paying for automated parking.

And one old guy on a Harley he just sticks duct tape to obscure the numbers on his tag. He rides around with roll of duct tape. Says he pulls into a gas station near the on-ramp of the Turnpike and sticks the duct tape and that then he peels it back off as soon as he has exited the Toll road. When his wife is in the rear seat she drapes a flannel shirt tied around her waist to obscure the plate.

I got a kick out of that, to hear how far these guys will go to avoid paying a dollar. KeK

Has anyone else heard such stories?

A Puerto Rican guy on a Grom he says he uses a big duffelbag that is way too big and he straps it to the pillon seat with a flap that "conveniently" hangs over and obscures the plate. I like his idea the best because it can be explained away to a cop as an "innocent mistake".

I asked the harley guy with the duct tape how he would explain it away if a cop pulls him over? He says he lives in a condominium and that he would tell the cop that a neighbor that HATES him has been doing many things to get him in trouble and that he is probably the guy that "pranked" him by putting duct tape on his plate. That same neighbor had poured rotten milk all over his motorcycle the week before and stuck a dead rat inside the hole of his muffler.

"So it must be him, Officer....I swear. Must be that bad neighbor in the condo that put the duct tape on my plate to get me in trouble...... "
